<p>Netsafe is the approved agency under the Harmful Digital Communications Act 2015 in Aotearoa New Zealand. This means we have been given responsibility to assist if you (or someone you know) has experienced harm as a result of a digital communication(s).</p> <p>The Netsafe service operates 8am-8pm weekdays, and 9am-5pm weekends and public holidays. You can talk to a member of the Netsafe team from Monday to Friday 8am-8pm.</p> <p><strong>If you are in danger, call 111 immediately.</strong>&nbsp;If a crime is being committed, visit <a href="http://www.police.govt.nz/contact-us/stations">your nearest Police Station</a>&nbsp;to make a report.</p> <p><strong>What we need from you:</strong></p>

<li><a href="https://www.netsafe.org.nz/digital-content-records/">Screenshots.</a>&nbsp;Please ensure that you have taken screenshots of the harmful digital communications you would like to report to Netsafe. You will need to keep your own copies of these, as well as submitting them to us (unless it is intimate or sexualised content). <p>Please read our guidance first before taking screenshots as it is illegal to copy material that is classified as &lsquo;objectionable&rsquo;.&nbsp;<a href="https://www.netsafe.org.nz/digital-content-records/">How to record digital evidence</a></p> </li> <li><a href="https://www.netsafe.org.nz/digital-content-records/">URLs</a> - links to where the live harmful content is located online (if applicable)</li> <p>If you are unable to provide all the above, you can still make a report to us, we will let you know how we can help based on the information you can provide.</p> <p><strong>We will:</strong></p>

<p>Provide you with our best advice based on our experience and expertise.</p> <p>Recommend actions you, or we, can take, to resolve your report quickly and efficiently.</p> <p><strong>We will not be able to:</strong></p> <p>Trace IP addresses and find out the identity of users behind anonymous/ fake accounts. We can let you know about the other options available if this is the assistance you need. </p> <p>Access information that is not publicly available (such as content posted on private accounts).</p> <p>Warn or punish people, as we are not an enforcement agency.</p>

Netsafe helps people and schools in New Zealand experiencing harmful content online. Our service is free and confidential and we provide specialist online incident advice. If English isn’t your first language, just let us know which language you’d like to communicate in and we will arrange for a translator.
